Privacy

Your voice is transcribed on your device. Barkey has no account system or transcription server.

Setup uses the network

Setup downloads the speech model files you choose. Those requests go to the model hosting services and are subject to their request handling. Once the selected model is installed and ready, transcription runs on your device. Recordings are not sent to a transcription service.

Audio and text stay local

Barkey stores recording audio in protected local files. After successful transcription, Recents keeps the last five completed, nonempty takes, including their text and audio. Completing a sixth take removes the oldest. You can delete individual takes in the app. Saved audio and models are excluded from device backups.

Unfinished audio can remain available for Retry while the app process survives. Discard deletes it. A new app process removes abandoned capture audio and unfinished history drafts; completed Recents survive relaunch.

The keyboard and Live Activity

The keyboard receives session status and finished text through the shared app storage. It does not read surrounding text from the app you are typing in. Allow Full Access enables this communication with the containing app. The Live Activity shows recording and processing status, never transcript words.

Pending text expires after one hour and is deleted on insertion or discard. A saved take in Recents is separate from that pending text. Copying text in the app uses a clipboard entry restricted to this device that expires after two minutes.

Where you insert text

When you insert or paste a transcript into another app, that app handles the text under its own policies. Barkey cannot control how the destination app stores or shares it.

This website

This website is hosted by Cloudflare. Website requests are separate from the app’s local recordings and transcripts. Cloudflare may process connection and request information, such as IP address, requested URL and browser details, to deliver and protect the site. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

The site does not include analytics scripts, advertising trackers, account registration or a contact form. It does not set application cookies.
